Providing Affordable Housing to Seniors in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wa.,--Here at 520 North Edison street.. just across the street from Kamiakin High school. They are building an Affordable Housing facility for Seniors called Edison Terrace West.
The three story building will have 45 one-bedroom apartments available to seniors 62 years of age and older. Earlier Wednesday, community members and officials from Shalom Ecumenical Center or SEC gathered here at the future site of Edison Terrace West.
Rich Barchet is Chairman of SEC. He says this not-for-profit facility fills a huge void in the Tri-Cities.
"The number of people that will be eligible to live in this facility will continue to grow," according to Barchet. And there will be a need that's not fulfilled with the housing that we have right now."
This is only the first phase of potentially three housing projects for SEC. This spring, they will be applying for a federal grant to build another 45 unit facility called Edison Terrace East.
The third and final proposal will focus on housing for those who are developmentally disabled. That should take place in the Spring of 2008.
