KENNEWICK, Wash. - Southridge senior Travis "Moose" Mattair has some pretty good options. He already has a baseball scholarship to Oregon State lined up, but scouts are saying he could be a first round pick in next week's Major League Draft, which would provide a huge signing bonus. The question is, what offer would be big enough to justify the Moose from skipping college?
"There is that line, I'm not going to say what it is," Mattair said. "But my family and I have reached a number and if we get that, then I will forgo college, but I want to play baseball somewhere. I want to be playing pro baseball whether it's next week or in the next three years.
Mattair is on the top-100 lists in several publications. Furthermore his picture will soon appear in Baseball America. He's been working out with is Legion team in Kennewick. He projects as a third baseman at the next level. He also is Southridge's all-time leading scorer in basketball.
