RICHLAND, Wa.,--Starting tomorrow, Richland Police will have extra patrols around the clock in the area of Duportail Road. By enforcing speed, they hope to prevent accidents.
Police say Duportail road near the Wal-Mart and Home Depot is a popular spot for speeders. Several collisions caused by excessive speed have occurred in that area in recent months. Sergeant Kevin berger says people need to be aware.
"We'll be working a specific emphasis on this roadway," said Sgt. Berger. We're gonna be targeting speeding vehicles and any violations we find after that fact. You need to be slowing down when there's a heavily congested area."
While we were filming, Berger clocked cars going 10-miles over the posted speed zone of 30 miles-per-hour. He also adds that drivers have their vision obstructed coming up the hill near Duportail and Kennedy. But being mindful of the posted speed will only ensure a safe commute.
