Crews Now Searching for Three Missing People in Toppenish Fire

TOPPENISH, Wash -  Toppenish Police say they will be searching for three missing people after a suspicous fire Sunday.

Witnesses say 59 year old Art Torres, the manager of the building, and 41 year old Tawni Wright, a tenant, may have been trapped inside.  Police fear there could be one more.

Family and friends watched from the sidewalk across the street as ATF crews investigated the building.

Torres family says they don't know why anyone would intentionally start the building on fire.

Vince Macleod, a neighbor, says he knows almost everyone in the building and is good friends with Torres.

"I just can't believe it, i can't believe it, Art was a great guy, great guy," says Macleod

Toppenish Police Chief Kelly Rosenow says this kind of fire is a first for him.

"This is the biggest fire I've seen, I've been here all my life and this is the biggest fire i've seen in a long time," explained Rosenow.

Police say they have one person in custody who may be connected to the fire.   ATF crews will continue their investigation.
