Firefighters Say Two Brush Fires in Wapato could be Arson

Wapato, wa -  Firefighters say two brush fires in Wapato could be arson.

The first one happened just off Highway 97, near West Wapato Road.

It burned about five acres. Firefighters are fairly certain fireworks caused the fire.

A few minutes later, they were called out to a brush fire a three miles away on Branch Road, which burned three more acres.

"Well, we had to brush fires very close together," say Captain Landon Lommers of Yakima County Fire District #5, "In fact, we responded to both at the same time.  They weren't all that far apart.  Two or three miles away."

Yakima County Fire District #5 says it took about two and a half hours to put out both fires.
