Murder Suspect Dies, Police Reveal His Identity
Yakima, WA - A murder suspect shot and killed by Yakima Police has been identified as Jose Ramos Alvarez.
Police believe he had as many as eight different aliases and they are not one hundred percent certain that Jose Alvarez is his real name.
Alvarez was shot by police on Friday afternoon after a chase that ended on South 4th Ave and St. Helens St.
Police say he pointed a gun at an officer and that's when an officer shot him in the head.
Alvarez was taken off life support last night.
He was wanted for the murder of Juan Ramos almost two weeks ago.
"We were told by many individuals, including family and friends of the victim that the suspect who goes by the street name of "Cachete" had issued threats... in an effort to find out where Mr. Juan Ramos was," says Captain Greg Copeland of the Yakima Police Department.
Police say Alvarez murdered Ramos because he owed Alvarez $15,000 in drug money.
They say the caliber gun found on him Friday matched the one used to murder Juan Ramos.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been put on paid administrative leave until an investigation is complete and the county prosecutor looks over the case.
That could take up to five weeks.
