Suspended Licenses Linked to Other Problems
Kennewick, Wash. -- People can have their driver's licenses suspended for a number of different reasons and police say many times the lack of a valid license leads to a list of other charges.
Kennewick police say it is amazing how often that someone with a suspended license also has illegal drugs or weapons in their car. They say people with a suspended license tend to lead a life of irresponsability.
All it takes is a simple check of your driving record on a patrol car computer and an officer knows if your license is suspended. And officers say the suspensions are something they take seriously.
Sgt. Scott Child says, "Driving with a suspended license is a crime and you can be booked into jail for that." officers check your license whenever you are pulled over, even for a minor traffic violation.
The frustrating thing is that many times people with suspended licenses don't know they are suspended. Department of Licensing officials say they send a letter to people but that still many times people don't know until they have been pulled over.
But, Kennewick Police say a person with a suspended license is a certain type of person with a specific lifestyle.
Child says, "Once I find that a license is suspended that shows a pattern of irresponsibility, that's what that shows, you're not taking care of your business." DOL officials agree, if you have a suspended license, it should be a reminder that you need to take care of something.
