KENNEWICK, Wash - "I don't think he knew we were listening," said Tri-Cities Fever Head Coach Tony Wells. Wells was referring to Spokane Schock Head Coach Sonny Shackleford's comments about Tri-Cities. "He basically said his team was like rock stars and they're just crossing teams off when they go to their cities." Needless to say, this was a little shocking to Coach Wells. "Shack is my boy too! I would never say that as a coach, not for this game."
Coach Shackleford's words have only fanned the flames of the intense rivalry between the Fever and the defending AF2 champion Shock. What Coach 'Shack' said also struck a nerve with Coach Wells' personal career. "Spokane was the first team to turn me down last year when I was looking for a job. They told me, what would they want with Everett's leftovers? But you know what, that's ok because I'm much better off here," said Coach Wells. "If Spokane hadn't told me no I wouldn't have gotten this opportunity in Tri-Cities."
