Kennewick, Wash. -- High speeds and tires lead to a dangerous situation on Interstate 82 today. A truck and trailer were travelling west on I-82 near milepost 116, when troopers say the driver got into trouble.
They say he was travelling too fast and slid into a 180. The trailer hit the guardrail, cutting some of the truck's tie down's and sending tires rolling down on a hill and across Bofer Canyon Road. Washington State Patrol Troopers say they have seen these situations before and they can be very dangerous.
State Trooper David Brandt says, "It is causing some serious injuries and some fatalities across the state of Washington, with the debris coming off the trailers."
Fortunately, in this case the tires didn't hit anyone and the driver was just ticketed. A new Washington law says that if your unsecured load hurts someone, you could have to pay up to $5,000 and spend up to a year in jail.
