YSO searches Yakima River for woman

UNION GAP, Wash -- A woman is alive after an intense search of the Yakima River.

Washington State Patrol tired to pull Desiree Wahsise, 22, over just before mid-night Friday, near exit 37 on I-82. Refusing to stop, she took off and crashed her car and ended up in the Yakima river, said the Deputy Ernie Lowry of the Yakima Sheriff's Office.

Rescue units from the Yakima Sheriff's Office looked for her for four hours.

Saturday afternoon, Elizabeth Sanchey, Wahsise's mother, told police she talked to her daughter this morning.

Sanchey is on her way to Tacoma to verify that her daughter is alive, said Deputy Lowry in a press release.

If alive, police will want to talk to Wahsise.
