KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Amateur radio operators across the country today were putting up their antennas for a competition called Field Day on Saturday.
Mike Tesky and Steve Eizenburg were at the Red Cross in Kennewick with their equipment up. They were competing to try to contact as many amateur radio stations as possible.
They heard calls from Minnesota and other states from across the country. But, Tesky says the most important thing is to get the word out about amateur radio.
Mike Tesky says, "I just hope to expose some of the public to amateur radio what it's about. It's especially fun to see young people get into it as a hobby." The radio competition started at 11 am and finishes tomorrow at 11.
Both Eizenburg and Tesky say while it is nice to do well in the competition, everyone is a winner just for participating.
