PROSSER, Wash. - Firefighters from all over Benton and Franklin Counties fought a large grass fire off Interstate-82 in Prosser Sunday night.  It happened near the Gibbon Road Exit.

Fire officials are now determining the cause of the fire but are saying it is likely human caused.  About 1,000 acres burned near Chandler Road and the Yakima River.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reopened the highway Sunday night just after eleven o'clock.  All lanes of traffic are moving smoothly.  They closed the road due to poor visibility.

"We faced about 30 foot flames when we arrived on scene here with highway traffic backed up and just right in the middle of the smoke," said Fire Chief Ron Duncan.  "The priority was to keep the fire from jumping over the median onto Horse Heaven Hills, which it did a little bit, but we were able to stop it."
