SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Mariners were looking to take the rubber game of their three-game series with Ken Griffey Junior and the Cinncinnati Reds on Sunday.
But in the top of the 1st, Griffey hit it deep to left center off Mariner starter Miguel Batista. That made it 1 to nothing. In the top of the 5th, Junior hit another solo shot, his 21st of the year. He is 8th on the all-time home run list. The Reds were up 2 to nothing. The second home run was the 584th of Griffey's career, giving him one more home run than Mark McGwire.
But in the bottom of the 6th, Ben Broussard laced a pitch and it hopped over the wall. It was a ground rule double. 2 runs scored and the score was tied 2 to 2.
In the bottom of the 7th, Willie Bloomquist laids down a beautiful squeeze bunt and Yuniesky Betancourt scored to put the Mariners in the lead. They win it 3 to 2. They start a series against the Boston Red Sox at Safeco on Monday.
