Yakima, WA - With an ongoing effort to prevent wildfires... Yakima County leaders want to name this week as wildfire awareness week. Local fire officials will get together with the County Commissioners Tuesday to officially name this week wildfire awareness week.
The goal of this week is to bring attention to what needs to be done to prevent wildfires. Local fire and county officials will use the week to promote public safety and make people more aware of what they can do to stop wildfires.
Last year the cost of fighting these firse was around 1.5 billion dollars. Wildfires burned nearly 10 million acres, destroyed over 750 structures, and costs the lives of 22 firefighters all over the county.
