WEST RICHLAND, Wa.,--It is only a parking lot. However, West Richland Mayor along with DOT officials say that this new lot will serve a dual purpose for residents and commuters.
Today's dedication was made possible through the state's department of transportation Regional Mobility Grant program. The $134,000 grant added 134 new parking spaces at Flat Top Park which will encourage use of public transportation. West Richland Mayor Dale Jackson along with Ben Franklin Transit says the entire community wins.
"This will put people's automobiles in this parking lot before they contribute to the congestion that we will continue to see with the Hanford work commutes," said Ben Franklin Transit GM Tim Fredrickson."
"It also serves as major parking for Flat Top Park and the events that we have here throughout the year," said West Richland Mayor Dale Jackson.
To help with population growth, DOT says another Park-N-Ride lot will be built on Columbia Park Trail near Ben Franklin Transit's headquarters in Richland. Over 200 parking lot spaces will be added.
