Book Released About Yakima Woman Killed in "Thirty Mile Fire"
YAKIMA, Wash - Yakima author Katherin Fitzpatrick is releasing her book, which reflects on her daughter. Karen Fitzpatrick was the youngest of four who died in Wintrhop's "Thirty Mile Fire" six years ago. Karen was only 18.
Her mother is remembering her with a book called "Angel Promises". It talks about Karen's life and the controversy surrounding the crews safety on that wildfire. The book even includes pictures of the last moments of Karen's group.
Katherine says Yakima is important to the release of the book.
"If they get behind this, just like they did when this happened it was a really heart felt support from the community, it's going to help spring board across the nation," says Katherin Fitzpatrick.
The wildfire burned over 9,000 acres. John Norman Maclean also wrote the book, "The Thirty Mile Fire... Chronicles of Bravery and Betrayal".
Both authors will be at Borders Books in Union Gap this Saturday, June 30th, at 1 p.m. for a book signing event. Borders will be selling both "Angel Promises" and ' The Thirty Mile Fire".
