RICHLAND, Wash.- As the temperatures heat up, so does work at the Vit Plant.
Bechtel is continuing to hire workers as construction gets more active.
Bechtel says they're brining in a combination of engineers and skilled workers at a rate of around 40 hirings a week.
The company has about 200 openings posted on their website right now.
The hirings are a combination of increased activity during the summer, and anticipation of restarting construction on the biggest parts of the plant.
DOE is also anticipating a new seismic report will confirm that the design on the high-level waste and pretreatment is up to code.
They hope that will allow them to restart full construction on those facilities as early as September.
Construction is already years behind schedule and over budget.
The plant designed to turn millions of gallons of radioactive waste into glass is now scheduled to open in 2019.
