NEW YORK, New York - Spencer Hawes is staying on the West Coast after the Sacramento Kings picked the Washington center with the tenth overall pick in the N.B.A. draft.
Hawes is in the N.B.A. draft after one season with the Huskies. He received honorable mention status for the All-Pac Ten team and landed on the All-Freshman conference squad, averaging 14-point-nine points, six-point-four rebounds and one-point-seven blocks.
The seven-foot Hawes led the Huskies and was tenth in the conference in scoring. He also was second on the team in rebounds and fourth in the Pac Ten in field goal percentage and blocks. Hawes is polished around the basket and can hit the inside shot with either hand.
He runs the floor well for a big man and can handle the basketball when needed. Hawes also can make the outlet pass and was able to find teammates for open baskets. He will have to improve his defensive game to become more than a one-dimensional player.
