Yakima Falls to Vancouver, 9-4Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash - The Vancouver Canadians used a four-run first inning to jump to an early lead and never look back, beating the Yakima Bears 9-4 at Yakima County Stadium.
Matt Sulentic led the Canadians with a two-run single to start the scoring in the first, finishing the night 2-4 with a homerun, three RBI's, and two runs. Two more scored on Dante Love's RBI single and an error. Love finished 2-3 with an RBI and a run. Sulentic's solo homerun provided the fifth Vancouver run in the third, before the Canadians tacked on another on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Arrieche. Ramon Ramirez knocked a two-run double to the warning track in right-center to get the Bears on the board in the fourth.
However, Vancouver got those runs back in the fifth with an RBI triple by Arrieche, who would then score on a wild pitch. Mark Hallberg went 2-3 with an RBI double in the fifth, and Jo Jo Batten finished 2-5 with an RBI single in the seventh. Chase Christianson pitched well in relief again, pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Josh Collmenter made his pro debut with a perfect ninth, including a strikeout.
The Bears will begin a three-game series with the Boise Hawks, with right-hander Bryant Thompson getting the start for the Bears at Yakima County Stadium Friday night at 7:05 pm.
