YAKIMA, Wash -- The authors of two new books about the 30 Mile Fire were in Yakima Saturday.
The 2001 fire killed four fire fighters from the Yakima Valley.
The two books chronicle the 30 Mile Fire from very different perspectives.
Award winning author John McLean, profiles the firefighters, and details the events that led to the disastrous fire. His book is called "The 30 Mile Fire: A Chronicle of Bravery and Betrayal.
The books examines the long list of mistakes made by the U.S. Forest Service and the fire fighters themselves, and the bad luck suffered by everyone involved.
Kathie FitzPatrick, who's daughter Karen was killed in the fire, has written her own book "Angle Promises".
It about Karen's life, and the controversy surrounding her death.
The book was therapeutic to write for FitzPatrick.
"It was a mixture of emotions," said FitzPatrick. "There are times when she inspired me and refreshed me with her words."
McLean's book is being called a must read for those who study wild land and fire safety.
Both are in bookstores now.
