Investigators Believe Yakima Apartment Fire Started in a Van

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Investigators say the apartment fire that killed two people apparently started in a van parked outside the building.

Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Melcher says the fire is considered suspicious until there's a final determination on the cause.

A neighbor who escaped from the fire early yesterday said the van belonged to the victims, 25-year-old Chris Bolton and his 29-year-old girlfriend.

A friend, Shellie Pettit, says Bolton was having engine trouble with his van and that it had previously caught on fire a couple of times.

Four residents of the four-unit apartment building escaped.

Property damage is estimated at $100,000.
