YAKIMA, Wash - People who park cars on their front lawn or yard won't be able to anymore. The Yakima city council passed an ordinance Tuesday night making it against city code.
Some from the council feel it is important that Yakima has a clean image and to not lower property values.
If someone wants to park their car on a front lawn they will either have to put gravel down in the area or lay cement.
One city council member says it is the fair thing to do for people whose property value is effected by neighbors who park cars like this.
"I don't know how long it takes to get some very obvious, decent legislation, common sense to normal people, property owners whose property is considerably devalued by habits of others," says Yakima Council Member Ron Bonlender.
There are some exceptions to the ordinance. Those who use their property for parking during the county fair or july 4th celebrations can still have people pay to park on their lawn.
