Kennewick Firefighter Dies From Breathing Difficulties

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick Fire and Police say that 38 year-old Kennewick Firefighter, Eric Lyons, died Thursday after suffering a fatal medical emergency condition while on duty.

Lyons was transported to Kennewick General Hopsital where emergency room medical staff were unable to revive him. Lyons was pronounced dead at approximately 1:12 a.m.

The cause of death is undetermined right now and did not occur while performing emergency medical or firefighting duties.  The Kennewick Police Department and the Benton County Coroner's Office will investigate the cause of Lyon's death.

Lyons' immediate family has been notified. Kennewick Fire Department will providing support to the Lyons family during this difficult time.

This unexpected and tragic loss has stunned local firefighters. Eric Lyons was a well respected 13-year veteran of the Kennewick Fire Department. 

Before moving to Kennewick, Lyons served as a volunteer firefighter at both Spokane and East Wenatchee.
