Two Shot in Kennewick, Woman Dead, Man Wounded
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Neighbors awoke on Sunday morning to Kennewick Detectives knocking on their doors looking for clues about a violent shooting.
Police report that 22-year-old Wendy M. Rae was shot in the head and pronounced dead on the two-hundred block of 1st Avenue in Kennewick. 38-year-old Jason Jansen was also found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center and listed in critical condition.
Police were called to the scene at 7 o'clock on Sunday morning. Rae was reportedly found in a brown 1972 Chevrolet El Camino that was parked in the driveway. Police said Jansen was found staggering outside the car with a gun shot wound to his head.
A semi-automatic pistol was found from inside the car but police said it is unclear whether that is the same weapon used in the killing. Authorities report that they do not know who is responsible for the shooting at this point, but do not think there are any other suspects on the loose.
Police said the shooting happened in the driveway located at 220 E. 1st Avenue, but said that people living in the home next door are all related. Neighbors claim that Rae lived in the basement of one of the homes. They said Rae and Jansen were dating.
Wayne Woodard lives across the street and said he heard the couple recently fighting. He said the neighborhood is normally quiet and that everyone is shocked by the news.
Kennewick Police are asking anyone with information to contact authorities.
The Benton County Coroner said an autopsy is scheduled for 9 o'clock Monday morning.
