UPDATE From the Freedom Racing website:

The new U21 is scheduled for testing Thursday, July 19 on Lake Elsinore.  Driver Brian Perkins will fly in and take it for a spin, do a systems check and get comfortable for the team's debut in Tri-Cities on July 27, 28, 29.

The crew is extremely excited that this year long project is almost complete.  A special thanks to Dale Vanwieringen for all his time and talent in designing this master piece.

It's been a long, hard road to get a brand new boat built and on the water for the U-21 Freedom Racing team.

When fire destroyed the boat at Seattle last year, there was concern that the team would get out of the unlimited hydroplane racing business.  It's pretty darn expensive to build a boat, especially when you have to start from scratch.  But team owners Jeffrey Johnson and Kevin Aylesworth decided to build anew.  Driver Brian Perkins was added to the team.

But it's taken a little longer than they would have wanted and they missed the first two race stops in Evanville and Madison.  And now they're going to miss getting the boat to Detroit as well.
