WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - With fire fighters busy battling blazes throughout the area the entire weekend, Monday they're grateful to rest.
Responders at Benton County Fire District #4 fought fires for 24 hours straight.
Monday only two or three paid employees are still around cleaning up equipment. The rest of the 30 member crew are either working at their other jobs, or at home catching up on sleep.
"With heavy equipment on, hot conditions, and in fire and smoke, it takes its toll physically on your in that period of time," said Chief Mike Spring, Benton Co. Fire District #4.
Chief Spring estimates his crews walked an average of nearly 10 miles a day.
But even though his fire fighters are sleep deprived, Spring anticipates they'd be ready to handle to another new set of fires if needed.
