Firefighters Contain Small Fire on Hill In Richland
RICHLAND, Wash. - Flames were seen for miles on Monday night as a fire spread up a hill in Richland.
It happened near Meadow Hills Road just after eight o'clock.
Firefighters said it was a challenge for them because the hill was steep and caused the fire to spread quickly.
Authorities report that only a few acres burned after they got it under control in less then 30 minutes.
Many neighbors were concerned about nearby homes. Richland Captain Jim Hempstead said that with this type of fire, neighbors are always concerned that it will spread to their house. He said, "Fortunately in this case the houses were some distance and we were able to stop it before it extended toward the houses."
The Richland Police Department is now investigatng. Authorities said that fireworks or a motorcycle might be to blame.
