Yakima's Fiesta Foods Could Be Impacting Local Grocery Stores
YAKIMA, Wash - Driving past the new Fiesta Foods on Nob Hill Boulevard, you'll see the parking lot filled with cars. Since the stores grand opening a month ago, a lot of people have been checking out the new store. Some other local grocery stores are feeling the impact.
Wray's says since the opening of Fiesta Foods they have had a small decrease in their sales, but nothing too alarming. Top Food and Drug says they now have less of a hispanic customer base and have cut back on some of hispanic foods they sell. They say it has hurt their sales.
"As far as any adverse affects we may have had on competition. I think the only stores that are (feeling the effects), are the stores that already were in trouble before we got here," says Craig Gaylord, owner of the Fiesta Foods in Yakima.
Gaylord also says it could be possible the opening of Wal-Mart in Yakima could've effected local stores.
