Who's A Better Driver, High School Seniors or Senior Citizens?
KENNEWICK, Wash. - When it comes to safe driving who's safer, high school seniors or senior citizens? One study says senior citizens have the younger generation of drivers beat.
In an analysis of more than 330 thousand traffic accidents the Rand Corporation of California says senior citizens cause only about 7-percent of accidents.
On the other side the younger group was found to cause 43-percent of all accidents.
Local law enforcement says they're not surprised and credits senior citizens better driving to experience.
"They're reflexes may have slowed down but they're recognizing hazards more quickly and are taking invasive space out sooner than that teen driver," says Sgt. Ken Latin with the Kennewick Police Department.
Latin adds that seniors tend to drive less often and slower than younger drivers, allowing them more time to react.
