Cougs Will Tackle Irish in 2009
PULLMAN, Wash - For the second time in Washington State University football history, the Cougars have a game with University of Notre Dame. It was announced today that WSU and the Irish will meet on Halloween, October 31st, 2009, at the 65,000-seat Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. NBC will televise it. T
he Cougars and Irish met for the first time in 2003 when Notre Dame rallied late for a 29 to 26 overtime victory at Notre Dame Stadium. WSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk noted San Antonio was the site of his school's 1994 Alamo Bowl victory, a 10 to 3 win over Baylor on December 31st, 1994.
Notre Dame is one of two nonconference games currently scheduled for the WSU 2009 season. The Cougars will also face Hawaii, in addition to a full Pac-10 schedule. WSU's complete 2009 schedule has not been finalized. The game at the Alamodome will be the first of annual offsite games Notre Dame plans to play to try to make its contests more accessible to fans around the country. Notre Dame announced this week that it would play games in which it would be considered the home team at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida, in 2011 and 2014. No opponents have been announced.
