The U-1 flip in Detroit has taken its toll.  Mike Allen already had a cast and six screws in his thumb and wrist before the flip.  He's still recovering from the Detroit flip and will sit out the race in the Tri-Cities.  The U-1 hull itself is still in several pieces and will not be ready for Tri-Cities.  In fact, it may be done for the season.

But owner Ted Porter was determined to keep two boats on the water for the FormulaBoats.com team.  He tapped 21-year old Jimmy Shane to sub for Allen in Tri-Cities.  And he's also calling up the back-up hull.

Team manager Mike Weber drove that hull in 2005.  It was yellow and white at the time.  It's since been re-painted to red to match the FormulaBoats.com fleet.

Jimmy Shane his had seat time in an unlimited before.  He had a chance to take a few laps at the exhibition in Celina, Ohio earlier this year.  At that time, he drove the fromer Budweiser hull, the U-1, that was damaged in Detroit.

Porter said,  "He (Jimmy) can obviously handle the boat and has accomplished a great deal in his career already.  We are confident that his skills, professionalism and personality will make him a great fit for our team and a fan favorite on the ABRA circuit."

Shane who has seven UIM World records in APBA Inboard racing.

"I have been hoping for this day for a long time, especially since driving the boat in Celina last year," said the 21-year old Shane. "I know this is a short term deal while Mike is out, but getting qualified as an Unlimited driver is the first big step for what I hope is a long career at this level. "
