Yakima Radio News Icon Dies

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WA -  Yakima says good bye to a radio news icon.

KIT radio learned this morning that Al Bell passed away from cancer.

He was 77-years-old.

Bell had been a news reporter at the station for more than 40-years.

KIT news reporter Lance Tormey worked with Bell for a few years before Bell retired in the late 90's.

Tormey says he not only worked with Bell, he grew up listening to him on the radio.

"You know Al bell was the kind of guy that when you heard him, you believed in him. He had that kind of voice," says Tormey, "When a disaster happened you believed in him."

Tormey says that along with reading the news, Al Bell was announcer for the Yakima Bears early in his career.

Bell is survived by a son, a daughter and his longtime companion.
