Change of Color Cools Hydro Down

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- With temperatures expected to be close to 100 degrees for this weekend's Columbia Cup, one hydro crew is sporting a new boat with a new paint job that's supposed to cool the boat down.

The U-21 Meyer's Auto Tech now is yellow, orange, and a deep purple. Last year the hydro was black. Driver Brian Perkins says this should cool down the top of his boat, where the crew works, by as much as 40 degrees. And he says the well-being of his crew is very important.

Perkins says, "The crews everything. I mean it takes ever person on the team to make one of these run, so without the guy washing the boat, without a guy putting on the propeller, without all the guys you can't do it."

The U-21 crew hopes the new paint brings faster times this weekend.
