Toppenish School District, Teachers still at Impasse

Toppenish, WA -  The statlemate between Toppenish teachers and the school district continues.

Both sides met for two days earlier this week, but couldn't come to an agreement.

The union says the sticking point is health insurance.

Teachers feel they pay too much.

"A lot of times the members who have families and things like that have to pay out of pocket some huge sums each month, says Douglas Radach, a science teacher at Toppenish High School, "And we're just asking for some support from the school district to help us out on that."

Radach says they are hoping the mediator for the negotiations can find an opening to schedule the next meeting at an earlier date, so that this can be resolved before teachers report to school.

When asked if the teachers could possible go on strike, he says they were keeping their options open at this point.
