Ellensburg Truck Stop to Cut Down on Diesel Consumption
ELLENSBURG, Wash - One truckstop along I-90 is helping trucks cut back diesel consumption. The Flying J in Ellensburg is a popular stop for semi trucks. The rigs sit in the parking lot idling to run things like their air conditioner.
Tuesday, new electrical outlets were being installed. Thirty six trucks can be plugged in at once. They can use everything in their truck without running the engine. A spokesperson for Flying J's says the trucks will burn about ten gallons of diesel fuel running there air conditioners at night.
Shurepower officials, the company installing the outlets, say per hour, it will cost one dollar to plug into the outlets. It costs three dollars in diesel when idling.
The outlets will be available in the next few days.
