Kennewick Boy is Struck by Oncoming Car.
KENNEWICK, Wash. - A 15 year old Kennewick boy is in the hospital suffering injuries after he's hit by a car.
It happened on the 800 block of West Entiat in Kennewick. Two boys made it across the street, but the third tried to stop but was already on the road and in the way of traffic. The boy was then hit by the car and suffered injuries to his shoulder. Police say it could have been a lot worse because he wasn't wearing a helmet. He was transported to Kennewick General Hospital.
Police want to remind everyone to pay close attention when on the roads.
"Your required to come to a complete stop before you enter the road way and if this bicycle had done that, that may have prevented this accident. People unfortunately aren't always paying 100% attention to the car sometimes they're on cell phones or listening to the radio or engaged in a conversation and you definitely want to pay attention because your not going to win when you come in contact with a 2000 pound vehicle," says Sgt Brian Swartswalter, Kennewick Police.
Police believe the headphones the boy was wearing could have also played a factor in the accident. However the boys mom says her son did see the car but just couldn't stop in time.
We're told the driver was going the speed limit.
