KENNEWICK, Wash. - The retrial for a Richland man convicted of murder is moving out of Benton County.
Attorneys on both sides of the Kevin Hilton case didn't feel they could find a fair jury in Benton County, so Friday they requested to move it. And now the trial is traveling to Asotin County. That's in Washington's Southeast corner.
Attorneys said too many people in the Benton and Franklin County area already know about the details of the case.
Back in 2003, a jury convicted Hilton of killing his landlords Larry and Jo Ulrich over unpaid rent. An appeals court overturned the conviction, and the State Supreme Court ordered a retrial.
Hilton's defense attorneys said there's been too much coverage, and the case is so unique it grabs people's attention.
"The nature of the killing itself doesn't make any sense. And so everybody... It's like a mystery in a mystery, and everybody wants to hear about it," said Kevin Holt, Hilton's Defense Attorney.
In addition to moving to trial, attorneys are also pushing it back to April next year.
