YAKIMA, Wash -- Drive around town, and you will quickly find out who is running for public office this Fall. Front yards, intersections and buildings are covered with political signs. But are they all legal?
Political signs are probably as old as voting, but to be legal in Yakima they can't be displayed on public property until 90 days before an election. Also, campaigns can't hang signs from traffic lights or signs -- and they can't impede drivers.
Its also illegal to remove political sign from public places -- doing so can land you in jail or paying a hefty fine.
With more than three months until the general election, political signs will be hanging around for a while.
