I-182 Eastbound Lanes in Pasco are Now Open After Multiple Accidents
Pasco, Wa - Eastbound lanes of I-182 in Pasco are now open after two separate car crashes close the interstate for nearly four hours.
The first accident happened just after 2:30 AM Friday Morning. The driver of the car, 22 year old Angel Pantoza Alcaraz, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Washington State Patrol says Alcaraz was heading Westbound on I-182 when he lost control and swerved into the median, rolling the car and ended up in the middle of the Eastbound lanes of I-182. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is a factor.
The passenger, 25 year old Jose L. Mendoza Castaneda, survived the crash and ran from the scene. He was later located and arrested on unrelated charges. He was taken to Lourdes Medical Center for minor injuries.
The Department of Transportation had detour trucks in place to close all Eastbound lanes of I-182 to divert traffic on to Road 68.
That's when the second accident happened. Around 5 AM a car approaching the detour trucks at road 68 crashed into the back of one of the trucks. The drivers vehicle is totaled and the detour truck is badly damaged. The driver was taken to Lourdes Medical Center with minor injuries.
