Central Pre-mix Closing Delays City Projects in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash -  Employee's at Central Pre-mix Concrete are affected after the company closes its doors, but now there are projects around Yakima that will be delayed without concrete.

In downtown Yakima Friday there was three sidewalks that are waiting for concrete to be poured.  That is the final step to the sidewalk improvement project to be completed.  Central Pre-mix is the main supplier for these kind of jobs in Yakima.

It is now up to the cities contractor to find another concrete supplier in the area.  So far they have tried companies in Ellensburg and the Tri-cities who are unable to deliver to the city.

City staff are also concerned the lack of concrete will effect other workers in the city.

"But some people will be impacted from their jobs. You have to understand the plant its self employs 50 but there will be a ripple effect there will be other traces that will be impacted if we can't get concrete,"says Bill Cook with the Economic Development Department for the City of Yakima.

Those jobs include construction workers and carpenters.  With all the housing development going on around Yakima, concrete is going to be needed for foundations.  City leaders say the longer Central Pre-mix stays closed, the more delays they will get on city projects, unless they are able to find another supplier.
