An Accident in Pasco Leaves One Man Dead and a Family in Mourning
An accident in Pasco takes the life of one man. Family members say a man was killed while helping his grandson whose truck broke down on the side of the road.
The accident happened early this morning off of Columbia River Road at Dent Road and Easy Street.
Police say a disabled potato truck that had run out of gas and was in the road partially blocking both lanes and the driver called a family member for help.
When 63 year old Porfirio Valdez arrived to help his grandson re-fuel when he was struck by a 2002 ford ranger pick-up driven by 18 year old Andrew Hatch.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Jason Davis said the man that was killed had driven the vehicle that was stopped going eastbound, the lights were on, on that vehicle, which would have contributed to the driver not being able to see the potato truck and there was also no avenue of escape for the driver.
Police say Hatch was unable to see the men or the truck because it was dark and the potato truck had no lights on.
The investigation is on going, but police say no charges are being filed and it appears that no drugs or alcohol were involved
