Car Thefts on the Rise in Pasco
PASCO, Wash.--Right now, Pasco police officials say 28 cars have been stolen within the last 30 days. What's interesting is that more than 21 of the cars stolen shared one thing in common: they were unlocked.
These types of crimes are occurring all over Pasco. Honda passenger cars like Accords and Civics accounted for most of the thefts. Officials say about 11 Hondas were stolen. But regardless of the make or model of your vehicle, doors should be locked at all times, especially when you're not in the vehicle.
According to officers, if its secure, it's less likely your car will be stolen.
"You're 10 times safer than if you leave it unlocked," according to Pasco police Ofc. Jared Quinlan. Most of the crimes we have are kids just kinda going door-to-door. Their trying handles to see if they can get something open. So, they pass the ones that are locked most of the time."
Aside from locking doors, Pasco police officials say there are other ways to not become a victim. First, never leave your keys in the car. Two, never leave your vehicle running unattended. Lastly, always try to park in well lit areas. Thieves are less likely to steal in the spotlight.
