Central QB Reilly named Preseason All-American

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Although Wednesday is the first official day on the practice field for the 2007 Central Washington University football team, quarterback Mike Reilly already has some lofty expectations to fill, as he was named to the D2football.com Preseason All-American First Team on Tuesday.

Reilly, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior from Kalispell, Mont., was the lone quarterback named to the preseason All-American first team by the web site on Tuesday. A total of five players from the North Central Conference were named to the first team, occupying nearly one-fifth of the 26 spots on the squad.

Reilly has had an impressive first two seasons with the Wildcats, completing 64.5 percent of his passes (454 of 704) for 5,356 yards and 51 touchdowns. He has also thrown for more than 200 yards in 18 of 21 appearances -- all starts -- since coming to CWU prior to the 2005 season. In 2006, when he had a 65.8 percent completion percentage (231 of 351) and totaled 2,660 yards with 21 touchdowns, Reilly was selected to the all-North Central Conference second team as well as its Academic All-Conference Team.

In addition to his numbers on the field, Reilly has been selected as one of the Wildcats' team captains for a second consecutive season. In the classroom, the mechanical engineering technology major carries a 3.49 grade-point average.

Central Washington opens its preseason camp this evening with a workout, and will continue with practices until its season-opening game on Sept. 8 against Humboldt State. The Wildcats, who finished 6-5 overall and 3-5 in the North Central Conference last season, are in their first season under the guidance of head coach Beau Baldwin.
