KENNEWICK, Wash - Just eight days ago the Tri-Cities Fever said they were not going to renew Tony Wells' contract as head coach. Today, all of that changed.
After speaking with both Fever Owner Doug MacGregor and Fever General Manager Randy Schillinger KNDU and KNDO have learned that Wells' contract will in fact be renewed by the team. At 1 o'clock today MacGregor said he had received a verbal confirmation from AF2 League President Jerry Kurz but there were still a couple smaller issues to work out before the contract renewal became official.
"Maybe I'll just put it this way: first year issues," says MacGregor. "We didn't have a set budget planned out and things weren't set in stone when we started last year." MacGregor adds that there wasn't really a big problem to blame there were just smaller things that added up to cause an "unhealthy relationship" between himself, Randy Schillinger and Coach Wells.
