FINLEY, Wash.--Captain Jeff Ripley of Benton County Fire district #1 is mainly concerned about the health of his men and women.
With all of the recent fire activity in our area, it eventually takes its toll physically on firefighters.
Today's afternoon garage fire in Finley on South Haney road was burning pretty fast. Fire officials say this garage was used more as a workshop, containing different types of equipment and chemicals that are extremely flammable.
Once the fire was out, the overhaul phase begins.
"As fire burns fuel, the fuel tends to collapse down around it, and that tends to hide pockets of fire and burning materials so, the overhaul phase is just to keep tearing that stuff apart, putting water on it, rinsing it down, making sure that its secure so we don't have to come back," says Ripley.
A car that was parked near the garage was destroyed. Cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
