WASHINGTON- The Department of Energy has scheduled a public hearing next week for a controversial new proposal to bring more low-level, but Greater than Class-C waste to Hanford.
DOE is examining a number of sites nationwide, including Hanford.
The proposal includes researching and building a new waste facility on site to dispose of about 5,600 cubic meters of commericial and DOE waste there.
"It's beyond due diligence, it's a, there's a legal framework for this and the nepa of 69, defining this, that we call the nepa process," said Christine Gellison.
A local meeting is planned for next Tuesday night, the 28th at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco starting at 6:00.
