Inmate at the Yakima County Jail dies

YAKIMA, Wash -- A 30-year-old inmate at the Yakima County Jail is dead after four other inmates beat him up.

The inmate, whose name has not been released, was arrested on June 21, by the Yakima Sheriff's Office for domestic violence/assault.

The inmate was taken to the hospital on August 9th with serious internal injuries. He initially reported that he had slipped and fallen, but follow-up investigation has revealed that 3 to 4 other inmates had assaulted him.  The reason for the assault is unclear.

YSO is now investigating the murder, and trying to figure out who attacked him, and why.

According to Steve Robertson, of the Yakima County Jail, this is the first homicide at the prison. An inmate died last year while in the jail, but the cause was a medical, not criminal.
