More and More U.S. Youngsters With High Blood Pressure
CHICAGO (AP) - Researchers think more than a million U.S. youngsters may have undiagnosed high blood pressure.
It is a problem that could leave them at risk of organ damage as they get older. The numbers are at least partly a result of the rising obesity rates.
It is not as easy to calculate elevated blood pressure in kids as it is in adults and many doctors may not even bother evaluating the numbers in children, because they think hypertension is an adult problem, but the lead author of the study with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland said it shows that many children are affected as well.
The study appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
