Central Washington Wildcats Coaching Staff
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The 2007 Wildcat coaching staff has undergone nearly a complete facelift since the end of last season, with 12th year head coach Mario Andaya as the only remaining piece to the coaching staff puzzle.
New on Andaya's staff this year are two assistants - Darla Myhre and Judy Schomer. Myhre played at the University of Washington and was a starter on the Huskies' 2005 national championship squad. Myhre is making her coaching debut after playing professionally in Spain for one season after her UW graduation.
Schomer, meanwhile, returns to the collegiate ranks after playing for Andaya and the Wildcats in 2001. She has spent the past three seasons coaching at nearby Kittitas High School.
Head coach Mario Andaya has quickly ascended his way up the charts in pursuit of the all-time wins record for Wildcat volleyball.
Andaya, a 1993 graduate of CWU needs just 11 wins to tie his predecessor, the late Dr. John Pearson, on the school's all-time wins list. Pearson notched 183 wins in eight seasons from 1988-95. Andaya was a part of 79 of those victories as Pearson's top assistant from 1992-95.
Andaya's take on the Wildcats and the conference race:
"I think we could easily be first, we could easily be eighth. It is a matter of how we come out and approach each match and take each opponent. The conference race is going to be tough ... Western returns the most starters, but with the young recruiting class of the conference, and a lot of the transfers that have come into the conference, I think anybody is going to be right there - there may be some sleepers that jump up in the race early and people may not expect. But we're expecting to be right in it, and if our youth continues to improve and has no fear - fear of failure or of improving - I think we'll be right in it."
