PASCO, Wash. - Brian Rike's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Tri-City Dust Devils a 4-3 victory over the Eugene Emeralds and gave the Dust Devils sole possession of first place in the Northwest League East Division by half a game over Spokane. It also completed a five game sweep of the Emeralds, who remain in second place in the West Division.
The Dust Devils got on the board in the third after Mike Mitchell scored a run on a balk by pitcher Matt Latos. Doubles by Kevin Clark and Johnny Bowden led to two more runs in the sixth, and the Dust Devils remained ahead 3-0 until the top of the ninth.
Emerald scored three runs off Dust Devils closer Riquy Pena in the top of the ninth, the last two on a home run by Kellen Kulbacki.
Mitchell led the Tri-City rally in the bottom of the ninth with a one-out single to right field. Mitchell stole second with Helder Velazquez at the plate, and scored from second on Rike's single to center field. It was exciting.
